When you get married, so many things change. WOW! There are so many decisions to make and plans to attend to that some things may fall through the cracks, especially if they aren’t specific to the wedding day.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) offers special enrollment rights for employees and spouses that allow them to enroll in a group health plan upon marriage. So check with your new spouse on which health insurance plan might be the best plan now that you’ve had that life-changing event. And don’t forget any dental or vision insurance, too. As a qualifying, life changing event, you are eligible to add these coverages, too.

You may want to think about beginning or adjusting contributions to your Flexible Spending account/s at this time, too. Your marriage may make you responsible for either more or fewer expenses.
